Making Life Rich: Our Ghana Adoption Story Inspired by a Brother's Love: Jason and Kristen have two sons, Nate and C.J. They have considered adoption since their pre-marital counseling in 2006, and continued to discuss the possibility of adoption throughout their marriage. Jason is half-Chinese and thought they would adopt from China, while Kristen thought it would be practical to adopt through the foster system. In January 2012 Jason's younger brother, Rich, died at the age of 21. Rich had spent a year in Ghana as a foreign exchange student at the age of 18. After Rich's death, Kristen said, "We should adopt a Ghanaian child!" The decision was made. It wasn't until after we shared the news with friends and family, that Rich's girlfriend, Renee, revealed to us that it was Rich's greatest dream to eventually adopt a child from Ghana. We had no idea. Jason and Kristen are fulfilling two dreams: to give an orphaned child hope, and adopt a child from Ghana....the place Richard Pon so passionately loved.
